Burglary
Burglary typically involves a person being inside someone’s place, without their consent, and then committing an offence while they are in that place. Although many believe burglary to relate to stealing property it can relate to any criminal offence committed in the place. An example might be a person who steps inside the doorway of a home and punches a person who is in the house.
Where a person enters a place without the owner’s consent, but does not commit a criminal offence while inside, they can be charged with committing a burglary with intent or criminal trespass.
Burglary carries significant penalties and can in some circumstances result in lengthy mandatory prison terms.
